We are currently seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Materials Engineer, located in Endicott, NY. The Materials Engineer will be responsible for designing and improving existing materials to increase the efficiency and capability of manufactured products. The individual in this role will work with sales teams and engineering teams to produce cost effective and reliable materials, and support the purchaser in technical communication with suppliers. This role will provide support for the overall material development phase of new design projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Design and Development: Conceptualize, design, and develop new materials options for manufacturing projects. Research appropriate material combinations to create composite structures. Develop prototypes and modify designs based on test results and feedback. Analysis and Testing: Conduct analysis and simulations to evaluate design performance and identify potential issues. Perform testing on prototypes and finished materials to ensure they meet safety, performance, and quality standards. Analyze data from tests to identify areas for improvement. Perform cost analysis for improved existing, or new materials. Collaboration and Communication: Work with other engineers, designers, manufacturers, quality control, sales and clients to ensure projects are successful. Communicate design concepts, plans, and progress to stakeholders. Prepare reports and documentation for projects. Problem Solving: Identify and resolve design problems and issues. Develop innovative solutions to improve product performance and efficiency. Industry Standards and Regulations: Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations. Stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and trends in the field. Work Flexibility: Ability to manage multiple projects at once. Understand and follow all applicable company practices, policies, and procedures. Conduct all work compliant with safety rules and regulations. Perform other work duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS BS Degree in Materials Science, Plastics Engineering, or related discipline. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. Working knowledge and application of principles and techniques commonly employed in the design and manufacture interconnect products such as metal fabrication, die cast, stamped and formed, and plastic injection molded components. Working knowledge of how the designed solutions may be used and help in developing the qualification tests and reliability parameters. Possessing a good understanding of breadth of materials and usage; interpreting datasheets and SDS sheets with a focus on plastics, polymers, adhesives, coatings. Experience with materials testing and evaluation including but not limited to: tensile, shear, hardness, elasticity, adhesive (climbing peal, peal strength), material compatibility, dielectric strength, smoke, flame, and toxicity. Domain knowledge with injection molding, additive materials, 3D printing, forming (vacuum, autoclave, press), machining etc. Microsoft Office products. Travel may be required, both domestic and international. SKILLS Results-driven mindset. Ability to effectively communicate across Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Suppliers. Solid presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to interact well with customers. Ability to multi-task. Possess strong diplomacy and problem solving skills. Must be able to work with a high degree of accuracy under pressure and with frequent interruptions. Proficient in MS Office Suite. Experience with modeling tools (CAD, Pro E, or Solidworks) preferred, but not required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS (with or without reasonable accommodations): Prolonged sitting or standing. Visual acuity.
