Mold Maker Apprentice (Manufacturing)
Summary:
The moldmaker apprentice completes a wide variety of moldmaking and mold repair related tasks to develop the skill sets of an experienced moldmaker. Training and direction is provided on new duties as they are introduced, learning progress is monitored, and regular feedback is provided. Overall growth depends on progress demonstrated on assignments, new learning opportunities that result from job mix, and training capacity.
Goal: Over a 2 to 4 year period apprentices gain extensive knowledge in precision machining, precision measuring, mechanical mold systems, mold construction practices, mold fitting/assembly, and project/time management to a point they can run and manage their own mold build jobs.
Duties:
-Follows all company safety rules and policies.
- Accurately record time and data into the job database as requested on work assignments. Use the computer system to assist in performing the duties you are assigned.
- Complete a wide variety of on the job training to develop skills in all areas. Listen carefully, confirm your understanding of what your being requested to do, and take notes as needed.
-Disassembles, assembles, inspects, and cleans molds & mold components. Uses care and caution when handling.
-Disassembles and repairs hot runner and hydraulic actuated molds. Complete training on electrical and hydraulic circuits using diagrams, blueprints and electrical circuit test meters and methods.
-Sets up and operates lathes, saws, milling machines, electrical discharge machines, surface and cylindrical grinders to construct and or repair precision metal components.
-Perform a wide variety of tasks in new mold construction including mold base prep/checking, cooling system set up, water circuit testing, component fitting, polishing, engraving, staging system set up, ejection set up, etc.
-Performs mold repair work as directed. Follow work orders and verbal instructions. Complete any required documents.
- Complete work in shop maintenance, machine maintenance, and other reasonably related duties as required.
- No Supervisory Responsibilities
Education and Exp: High school diploma or (GED). Two years machine shop vocational experience and/or 2 years of mold maintenance experience is desired (not required).
Physical Demands: There are moderate physical demand working frequently with medium weight material (20-40 lbs) or occasionally with heavy weight material. Maximum weight to be hand carried does not exceed 75 lbs.
