Staff Engineer (Entry-Level) (Administrative)
Study open channel flow, sediment transport, scour, stability, and deposition issues in rivers and reservoirs.
Estimate flood hazards and risk, and develop mitigation measures and alternatives for watersheds, including flood forecasting and inundation mapping.
Evaluate complex water resource systems.
Conduct dam/levee engineering and safety investigations, including dam breach analysis, feasibility planning, operations studies, drainage analysis, and water control manual updates.
Work as part of a project team to develop high-quality deliverables for our clients.
Qualifications:
Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
A master's degree or higher in civil or environmental engineering or water resources-related field.
0-3 years of related experience.
EIT preferred for entry-level.
Core Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities may include:
Developing, calibrating, and validating hydrologic and hydraulic numerical models.
Using GIS tools to pre- and post-process data.
Organizing, manipulating, and evaluating data using spreadsheets or other engineering software.
Delineating floodplains and creating flood hazard maps.
Preparing Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodplain management program documentation such as No-Rise Certification, Letter of Map Revision (LOMR), Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR), and/or Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA).
Designing hydraulic structures such as bridges, culverts, levees, and fish passages.
Designing systems for scour countermeasures and streambank erosion protection.
Preparing figures, maps, and graphics.
Preparing technical reports, memoranda, and manuals.
Working closely with internal project teams and clients on specific assignments or for other meetings.
Presenting communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings.
Participating in local engineering organizations or conferences.
Expanding technical and non-technical engineering skills through continuous learning.
Other duties as assigned.
Skill Requirements:
In addition to being enthusiastic about working in the field of water resources, the successful candidate should have the following skills:
Basic knowledge of HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and ArcMap/GIS.
Experience with FEMA LOMR and CLOMR applications is preferred.
Excellent communication skills including technical writing competence.
Ability to work independently, manage time, and work in team environments.
Excellent problem-solving abilities, including applying ingenuity and creativity in solving complex engineering problems.
