The Floater Crisis Responder Clinician is a full-time, 40-hour position that provides coverage across all crisis programs as needed, including the 24/7 Mobile Crisis Response Team, Metro CIT, Rural CIT, and SMART. This role serves individuals of all ages experiencing mental health and/or substance use crises. The clinician will respond to a range of life-threatening and non-life-threatening mental health calls, either independently or with police or EMS personnel, to provide crisis triage, symptom management, risk assessments, in-person psychoeducation, case management, and follow-up linkage within 72 hours to help individuals remain stable in their community setting. The position requires flexibility as the schedule, shifts, and program coverage may change, and responses will take place across various locations in Fresno County.
How will I contribute
Respond to crisis events in the community by providing immediate intervention for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises across various locations in Fresno County. Ensure timely emergency crisis coverage for individuals in crisis, adhering to established response timeframes. Provide on-site therapeutic interventions and collaborate with first responders to support community-based stabilization for individuals and families in crisis. Conduct brief mental health assessments to evaluate individuals' needs and recommend appropriate treatment plans. Use clinical judgment to determine the need for potential 5150/5585 placement for individuals who may be a danger to self, others, or gravely disabled, and develop safety plans as necessary. Make referrals and provide case management and aftercare services to support individuals following crisis intervention. Stay informed of available community resources to facilitate effective service delivery. Assist in de-escalating crisis situations, aiming to stabilize individuals and divert them from unnecessary hospital or jail admissions. Assess the severity of behavioral health symptoms to inform intervention decisions. Collaborate with law enforcement to provide emergency crisis coverage for adults and youth exhibiting behavioral health crises. Complete all required program documentation in a timely and accurate manner, meeting program standards and deadlines. Provide behavioral health consultation and coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, including community organizations, outside agencies, and healthcare providers. Participate in on-call services on a rotational basis as required by crisis programs. Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records in compliance with agency, COA, HIPAA, CCBHC, and CalAIMS standards. Ensure timely submission of provider enrollment forms and reports for third-party payers or other external entities. Contribute to law enforcement training initiatives, including ride-alongs, shift change updates, and Crisis Intervention Officer Training (CIT). Support the promotion of agency mission, services, and educational efforts, including workshops and classes. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning and success of the program. May encounter risk of working with persons with SMI (serious mental illness) that may include, but not limited to persons in mental health crisis, persons that may be intoxicated or impaired by drugs or alcohol, persons who may be DTO (danger to others), DTS (Danger to Self), or GD (Gravely Disabled). If such situations arise, staff may be required to call local emergency personnel to help deescalate the crisis, use crisis intervention techniques, and consult with supervisor as soon as practically possible.
What I bring
Master Degree in social sciences or related BBS Registration Required Current Associate Licensure ASW, AMFT, APCC. Must have a National Provider Identification (NPI) number or obtain an NPI number prior to start date 1 year experience providing crisis management and/or mental health services. Class C Driving License Working knowledge of community and hospital resources. Working knowledge of Windows based computer applications to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft TEAMS and Internet access. Ability to quickly develop rapport with individuals to resolve crisis situations. Ability to assess individuals potential for dangerousness to self, others and/or grave disability. Ability to make a differential diagnosis between substance abuse and psychiatric emergencies. Ability to appropriately and immediately document client interactions. Ability to utilize computer technology and electronic health record. Must complete 5150 certification training and credentialing through Fresno County Managed Care Department. Must possess independent clinical judgment and the ability to critically assess a situation for risk and response. Strong communication skills and knowledge of crisis intervention, behavioral health and risk assessment Substance Abuse clinical experience preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
