ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
Student Conduct and Ethical Development (SCED) is part of the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students staff within Student Success. SCED has five (5) fulltime professional staff, one fulltime administrative support staff, one graduate assistant, and a student assistant. Additionally, faculty, staff, and students serve as volunteers on the University Conduct Board (UCB) to support the mission of SCED. Student Conduct and Ethical Development (further referred to as "SCED" supports the goals, mission, values, and visions of the University of South Florida ("University" or "USF") by promoting responsibility and adherence to the standards of behavior outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. SCED collaborates with the USF community to advocate for a safe environment that promotes personal accountability and supports student success. SCED facilitates educational opportunities through meaningful interactions with students to encourage their academic, emotional, and professional development. The goal of SCED is to create environments that empower students to engage as ethical citizens in a diverse global society.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Assistant Dean/Director of Student Conduct and Ethical Development. The position will focus on investigating, adjudicating, and managing the day-to-day responsibilities associated with student organization misconduct and student conduct incidents that occur primarily in non-residential communities and off-campus. Additionally, this position will assist in the management of sexual misconduct, Title IX/VAWA, and Title VI cases.
This position will manage the recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of University Conduct Board (UCB) members and the UCB Advisory Council. The Assistant Director may supervise a full-time professional Student Programs Coordinator, Graduate Assistant, or Administrative Support staff. This position is designated Essential Personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Associate Director in the adjudication of student organization misconduct, sexual misconduct, Title VI and Title IX cases, and student conduct incidents primarily occurring in non-residential areas and off-campus using the conduct database system. Serves as a Hearing Officer to adjudicate various types of student conduct cases under the Student Code of Conduct and assign appropriate sanctions. Contributes to compiling all student organization misconduct and non-residential and off-campus student conduct data.
Supervise the Student Programs Coordinator in all aspects of their role. Support the Coordinator in developing and implementing outreach initiatives. Offer guidance, constructive feedback, and leadership opportunities for this position. Responsible for supporting the coordinator in assessing educational outreach and training initiatives.
Responsible for the recruitment and training of University Conduct Board (UCB) members (faculty, staff, and students), including providing ongoing training opportunities. Oversee the UCB Advisory Council. Facilitate training the Bulls Student Advisors Staff?a peer-led agency within Student Government that serves as advisors for students going through the conduct process.
Collaborates with campus and community partners and departments. Represents Student Conduct and Ethical Development as needed on matters related to student organization misconduct, conduct occurring outside of on-campus residential facilities and off campus.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years related exempt experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
Master's degree in College Student Affairs, Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or related field and/or Juris Doctorate. Preferably two (2) to three (3) years in student conduct investigation and adjudication experience. Title IX training/certification. Experience working on issues of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct in a university setting. Training and/or certification in conflict mediation. Preferred knowledge of student conduct database systems (e.g. Symplicity Advocate, Maxient).
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Experience in student conduct, investigations, and adjudication procedures. Experience managing issues of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct in a university setting. Training and/or certification in conflict mediation. Knowledge of student conduct daabast systems (e.g. Maxient).
