Chemist III (R&D)
Analyze chromatographic and mass spectral data correctly and accurately for client samples, mainly pesticide analysis on GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS instruments.
Maintains workflow with respect to sample processing, testing activities, cleanup and proper disposal of waste.
Assist with method development and validation for GC-MS as necessary.
Perform required experiments to accurately determine updated LODs and LOQs for chromatographic instrumentation.
Performs analytical instrument calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting as well as documentation of activities and interactions with onsite technicians as necessary.
Investigate best practices and perform research & method development to improve existing assays.
Assist in preparing for lab audits and reviews to ensure compliance with changing regulations.
Participate in twice-yearly Proficiency Testing programs as required for accreditation, including any corrective action follow-up for failed analytes.
Assists with laboratory testing, data collection, and reporting.
Manages CRMs and chemical standards, inventory, storage, record keeping and documentation in LIMs software.
Monitors laboratory inventory of supplies and consumables, prepares orders for approval.
Performs experiments and/or research activities as directed.
Adheres to the established security procedures of the laboratory.
Working within state regulations and guidelines, staying current on lab rules.
Serving as Lab Safety Officer, reviewing Chemical Health & Safety plan, ensuring staff is trained and up to date on safety protocols and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or related field required.
4+ years of hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation with one of the following instruments is required: GC-MS, GC-MS/MS and/or LC-MS/MS.
Ability to interpret data, perform analytical calculations and understand nuances of spectra analysis and interpretation.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Willing to train and take on various other lab duties as needed for business growth and development.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may require training lab technicians or other employees.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as SOP's, quality manual, employee handbook, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English in- person or via written correspondence regarding, results or summaries on experimental design, reports, data analysis or interpretation.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as unit analysis, algebraic equations, probability and statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to laboratory results.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve analytical problems and deal with variables related to lab testing. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written or schedule form.
